There’s growing momentum behind a campaign to keep Kilkee active and vibrant during the off-season months.
Local businesses are coming up with creative ideas to boost footfall in the West Clare tourism hotspot across the year, so that facilities and activities are available for both visitors and people living full-time in the local community.
The Flying Alpaca, an interactive alpaca farm just outside the town is open year-round and one of its co-owners says the winter period was busier for them than the summer, on account of domestic tourism.
Barbera Veterano says many businesses close after the summer season due to staffing shortages or reduced business, but she believes the town can be a hive of activity year-round.
