Green Party Wants Minister, Data Protection Commissioner To Investigate M18 Planning Application

The Green Party is calling for an investigation into Pat McDonagh’s planning application for a motorway services station on the M18.

The party is calling on Minister for Environment, Denis Naughten, and Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon to launch probes into the application which has seen over 20 planning submissions withdrawn by members of the public, with some saying their names were fraudulently put to letters in support of the project.

The Green Party is also saying that Supermac’s attempted to exercise undue influence on the planning process by agreeing to pay the cost of submissions which were gathered locally – the company initially agreed to do this, but will not be doing so after this controversy emerged.

Supermacs itself has previously sought a Garda investigation into the letters, saying it does not tolerate correspondence of this nature.
