Clare County Council has given the green light for a new medical centre in the South-East of the county.

The facility will be constructed in the Castlebank area of Ardnacrusha by the owner of the land, Edmund Irwin.

In the cover letter accompanying the application, Mr Irwin states that the medical facility is intended to serve the local community and will employ two general practitioners working from dedicated modern consulting rooms.

The proposed hours of operation are from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.

The site, located just north of the entrance to Ardnacrusha Power station is zoned as mixed use and is identified in the county development plan as suitable for the provision of community facilities.

Mr Irwin previously gained approval for the development of a childcare centre at the proposal site at this time last year.

On this occasion, Mr.Irwin has been granted approval by Clare County Council subject to ten conditions.

The conditions include flood prevention, pollution prevention and road safety measures, as well as stipulating that all electrical and telecommunications cables run underneath the building in keeping with visual amenity.
