A German supermarket giant has been given the green light to build a new store in Clare.
Lidl is set to demolish its existing premises in Shannon town centre in favour of a new modern facility.
The new store will be twice the size of its predecessor taking up a floor space of 2,560 square metres.
The new facility will have an off-licence , roof mounted solar panels and 145 parking spaces, including 5 disabled bays and 2 electric vehicle charging ports.
Getting to this stage wasn’t without its challenges, however, with the Health and Safety Authority, HSE and Shannon Airport Group all calling for specific safety measures in the final plans.
8 residents of Dernish Lawn objected to a number of elements of the plans, with concerns raised over potential noise pollution of the proposed ESB substation and construction along with the visual obstruction of the new store.
Clare County Council ultimately granted planning permission subject to 14 conditions.
