The Minister for the Environment has criticised Clare Councillors for irresponsible and bad planning around Ennis.

Minister John Gormley previously urged local politicians to dezone land as part of the Ennis and Environ Development Plan and he didn’t hold back in his criticism when he visited the town at the weekend, hitting out at councillors for excessive and unsustainable planning decisions.

The development plan includes 4,500 acres of land zoned for housing around Ennis for housing that could accommodate a population of more than 100,000 people, despite the fact that the population of Ennis is expected to rise to just 35,000 in the next 10 years.
