Greek police are continuing to question an Irish man in connection with the death of a 22-year-old Clare club hurler earlier this week.
Niall O’ Brien, who played with Broadford GAA, is believed to have died following an altercation on the island of Ios on Monday, 30th August.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is understood to be providing consular assistance to Mr O’ Brien’s family.
The 22-year-old was due to begin his final year’s study of a financial maths degree at the University of Limerick in the coming weeks.
In a statement on social media, Broadford hurling club says it is in ‘deep mourning’ with a ‘broken heart’, calling Niall an ‘extremely talented’ prospect and expressing sympathy to his family.
