A new Greek unity government will be sworn in today.

Lucas Papademos who used to be the vice president of the European Central Bank, says he’s taking over at "a critical point" for the country.

The 64 year-old replaces George Papandreou and will head an interim government until elections in February.

EU leaders are hoping that a measure of calm will return to the volatile bond markets amid the ongoing political developments  in Italy and Greece.
