Greek Finance Minister calls for Irish help

The Greek Finance Minister has called for Ireland's help to stop his country being – what he termed – "thrown to the wolves".

EU leaders meet on Monday for a crisis summit, as Greece continues to resist demands for pension cuts and tax hikes.

Writing in today's Irish Times, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis asked Ireland to support the Greek position.

He says a bailout deal for Greece would lead to greater openness, efficiency and democracy in the EU.

Greece must find 1-point-6 billion euro to repay the IMF in the next fortnight, or risk a default which would trigger the country's exit from the eurozone.
