A GPs representative from East Clare has likened plans to give free GP care to all children under the age of 6 to "medical apartheid."

Dr. Conor McGee is President of the National Association of General Practitioners which says the scheme does not serve the best interests of general practice or patients.
The group says the medical cards should instead be given to those in need of them, and is urging its 1200 members not to sign up, but is to hold a ballot of its members.
