The MidWest branch of a homelessness support charity has criticised the government's decision not to increase rent supplement limits.

The Department of Social Protection says raising the amount of support given to the lowest-earners would simply increase rents, but MidWest Simon says the current caps leave some families with no way of securing a home because of a shortage of supply.
On one leading property website today, there were just 11 homes in Clare listed under the rent supplement threshold for families with three children, while separate figures show that average rents last year in Ennis, Shannon, Sixmilebridge, Newmarket on Fergus and Killaloe were all over that limit of 500 euro.
