Government urged to tackle homeless crisis

The government's being urged to help families who are having difficulty paying their rent, as part of moves to tackle the homlessness crisis.

The Simon Communities of Ireland made the call following the release of figures overnight that indicate 70 new families became homeless in the Dublin Region last month.

An average of 60 new families have been made homeless each month so far this year.

The Simon Communities of Ireland say action is needed on rent supplement and rent controls to ensure families stay in their homes.
