The government has been urged to release some of it’s own funding to allow for flood repair works along the county’s coast.
A group of Irish politicians have held talks with EU Regional Policy Commissioner Jo-han-nes Hahn in Strasbourg, and briefed him on the level of damage inflicted on communities by the recent stormy weather.
The Commissioner is said to be supportive of Ireland’s case, and the government is expected to make an application for funds under the EU Solidarity Fund, but Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley thinks the coalition should not rely on this alone.
Speaking from Strasbourg, he called for government to put it’s own funds to use so works can start without delay.
