The government’s being urged to fast-track public construction jobs such as the development of new schools in order to boost employment levels in County Clare.

CSO figures at the beginning of March show that almost 9 thousand people are signing on here, with the biggest hike in Ennis.

However it’s claimed the live register figures don’t take into account the large number of construction workers who are underemployed, rather than officially out of work and claiming the dole.

Ruan County Councillor Joe Arkins is calling for immediate action by the government to address this area now by giving public construction projects in Clare the go ahead.
