Government To Unveil Plans To Deal With Trolley Crisis

The Health Minister and the Social Care Minister are expected to announce a health budget top-up of €70 million today aimed at relieving hospital overcrowding.

The proposal has been agreed by a taskforce set up to tackle the trolley crisis facing emergency departments and wards across the country.

It's expected to target around 700 so-called delayed discharges in order to free up beds.

Additional funding is to be diverted to the Fair Deal nursing home scheme, aimed at reducing waiting times for a nursing home bed from 11 to between four and six weeks.
