Clare County Council says it’s unable to guarantee that repairs in Lahinch, following on from one of the stormiest weekends in living memory, will be completed before the summer tourist season.
Along with the rest of the county’s coastline, Lahinch was hit by huge waves and heavy winds again today, leading to further damage.
Some homeowners in Quilty, Liscannor and Carrigaholt have been hit hardest, however, with their properties damaged by floodwaters, some beyond repair.
It’s estimated that the cost of repair to infrastructure will be millions of euro, and calls are being made for the immediate release of funds to help those worst hit by the storm damage.
Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes says as soon as local authorities apply for money it will be fast-tracked.
