Government insists referendum will proceed despite court judgement

Tánaiste  Eamon Gilmore insists the Children’s Right’s Referendum will go ahead as planned on Saturday despite today’s Supreme Court Judgement.

The five judge court ruled that coalition’s spending of public money on an information campaign ahead of the vote  was not fair, impartial or equal.

It criticised some of the government’s content on its referendum website and in a booklet distributed to household stating this was in breach of the landmark McKenna judgement from 1995.
