Government firmly rules out a second EU Treaty Referendum

The Taoiseach says his jobs minister Richard Bruton made a mistake by suggesting that the government would re-run the fiscal treaty referendum if the people vote NO in two weeks time.

Speaking ahead of a visit to Loophead Lighthouse in West Clare today,  Enda Kenny said Minister Bruton was courageous and "man enough" to admit he’d made a mistake, and added that it’s time for campaigners on the NO side to do likewise.

Opponents to the treaty claim the Minister’s comments show that the people can vote NO and ask the government to get a better deal on Ireland’s bank debt – before any re-run of the referendum.
