Government Doesn’t Have ‘Political Will’ To Implement Slaintecare – Harty

A Clare GP claims the government doesn’t have the ‘political will’ to fully implement the Slaintecare plan.

It comes after two top officials have stepped down from their roles involved in helping to implement the programme.

The all-party Slaintecare report published in 2017 promises universal healthcare, free GP care and an end to private practice in public hospitals.

In that time, waiting lists and overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick and other facilities nationwide have grown rather than contracted.

Kilmihil GP Dr Michael Harty, himself a former TD, says the Government has been cherry picking various health reforms rather than committing to the full plan.
