Government Dismisses Underground Pylons

The Government says it is not realistic or financially feasible to run new electricity pylons underground.

Today’s the final day for submissions from members of the public to Eirgrid’s plans to erect pylons across the country.

The proposals have been met with stiff opposition from local communities, concerned about the possible health impacts and how the pylons will detract from the landscape and value of their homes.

Energy Minister Pat Rabbittee says the cost of putting the pylons underground will mean higher energy bills for the next 50 years.
