A Fianna Fail general election candidate is calling on the government to clarify how many additional beds will be made available in Clare following the announcement of an investment in the county's care facilities for the elderly.
12 million euro has been set aside for the construction of a new 50-bed unit at St Joseph's Hospital in Ennis, as well as a major refurbishment of the existing building between now and 2021.
While Raheen Community Hospital in Tuamgraney, Regina House in Kilrush and Ennistymon Community Hospital will each receive a share of the remaining four million for the completion of refurbishment works.
The HSE says there'll be no reduction in capacity as a result of the works, but Councillor Clare Colleran-Molloy insists questions remained unanswered.
