The government has pressed ahead with the next step in it’s plans for the reform of enterprise activity in the Shannon Free Zone.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton has announced this morning that legislation is to be published by the end of the year to allow Enterprise Ireland and the IDA to assume Shannon Development’s functions in relation to indigenous enterprise and foreign direct investment
Though this had already been announced as part of the government’s plans for Shannon, a restriction contained in existing legislation needs to be removed.
Minister Bruton says the agencies will develop a plan for the delivery of enterprise supports in the Shannon region. He also admits that much work is still needed for Shannon, but says he is convinced that a bright future can be delivered for Clare’s international airport, and the surrounding industrial area.
