The government’s been accused of using the Seanad referendum to distract from the Budget.

Fianna Fáil senator Ned O’Sullivan says the government is deliberately planning a public vote on abolishing the Seanad just days before the Budget.

The referendum has been pencilled in for the first week of October – with the Budget set to be announced on October 15.
