General Secretary OF INMO Doesn’t Know If Strike Can Be Avoided

The General Secretary of the INMO says he doesn't know if a nurses strike – planned for next week – can be avoided.

Liam Doran says talks will take place this weekend – but he has warned that the experience of nurses in Emergency Departments over the coming days will determine the outcome.

Two hour work stoppages are due to take place at seven hospitals next Thursday, in a row over ED overcrowding.

Liam Doran says nurses feel they can't trust the HSE to make any changes – and while the strike doesn't have to happen – it is on the cards.

Meanwhile, a Clare doctor insists the pressure on Emergency Departments could be partly lifted by a new app that allows people to visit their GP remotely.

Dr Ronan Flynn says the MeeDoc app allows people to text their symptoms to their GP and get medical advice or even a prescription.

There's also the option for a video call with a doctor.
