A lobby group for gay and lesbian couples in Clare and throughout Ireland have welcomed the announcement of a referendum to provide full civil marriage.

Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore announced the vote will be held either next year or in 2015, when speaking at a Labour Youth Conference in Limerick over the weekend.
Director of The Gay and Lesbian Equality Network and Kilrush native Brian Sheehan says he believes people here will embrace the idea.
