Gardai Warn Motorists to Exercise Extreme Caution on Roads As Storm Deirdre Hits

Motorists throughout Clare are being urged to be safe on roads this lunchtime, following heavy rains this morning.

In West Clare, there are reports of flash flooding between Cooraclare and Cree.

While in North Clare, Gardai in Ennistymon are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads this afternoon, particularly back roads where spot flooding and surface water is likely.

Elsewhere, as strong winds and heavy rain sweep across the country, there are power outages in Limerick and West Cork and a Status Orange wind warning will be in place from 3 o’clock.

Severe gusts associated with Storm Deirdre could reach 130 kilometres per hour by late afternoon, while heavy rain of up to 50 millimetres is expected to fall.
