Clare County Council road maintenance crews have been treating priority routes according to the Winter Maintenance Plan, but many roads are expected to remain treacherous and very challenging, even after being ploughed and gritted.

The Cahermurphy to Cree and Lisdoonvarna to Kilfenora roads, as well as routes around Lissycasey and in and around Inagh village are reported to be particularly bad this morning.

There are also reports of a truck blocking the Coomeel to Kildysart road, around 2 miles from Kildysart.

There’s also some disruption to trains and buses this morning.

Shannon Airport is fully operational again today, however there are some delays to early morning departures so far, with passengers are advised to check with your airline and allow extra time for your journey to the airport.

Meanwhile, around 537 properties in Clare remain without power following the adverse weather conditions.

ESB crews are working to restore supply to the properties in the Kilkee, Lissycasey, Miltown, Cratloe and Tulla areas, with expected restoration times varying from lunchtime to nine o’clock tonight.

They’re among 41 thousand ESB customers across the country without supply following heavy snowfall, with homes, farms and businesses in Limerick, Tipperary, Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois and Wicklow the worst-affected.
