Gardaí are treating the death of man at Whitestrand Miltown Malbay last night as a ‘tragic accident’.
The man is believed to be a 51 father of four from Ennis and was well known for his involvement in water sport and safety.

The man was swimming in the area at approximatly 5-30 on Friday when he got into difficulty.
He was taken from the water and airlifted to University College Hospital in Galway by the Coastguard helicopter, but was later pronounced dead.
