The body was discovered by a contractor carrying out work on the sluice gates on behalf of the council yesterday morning at around 11am.

Emergency services were alerted and the body was recovered to the Quay, following which it was transferred to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

Gardaí believe the body was in the water for a number of days and Sergeant Joe Downey says there are no reports of any missing persons who match her description in the area.
