Gardaí say they’re satisfied that there was no threat to the plane that diverted to Shannon yesterday after a bomb scare.

The United Airlines flight from Rome to Chicago was forced to make an unexpected diversion here after a warning note was found in the toilet.

Handwriting samples of passengers were examined as part of a Garda investigation into the matter, but no arrests have been made.

All 214 passengers and crew were given accomodation overnight and are due to continue their journey to the US, when the flight resumes later this afternoon.
