Gardaí have dealt with more than 500 domestic abuse incidents in Clare so far this year.

Figures released to the Dáil, in response to a question from Clare’s Independent TD Michael McNamara, show were 25,000 domestic abuse incidents across the country so far in 2021, 519 of those in this County.

The national figure equates to an average of one incident reported to Gardaí every 15 minutes since January, but the Executive Director of Rape Crisis Midwest says the figures aren’t surprising.
