Gardaí Out In Force Ahead Of New Charges For Cyclists

Gardaí in Clare will be out on force this week ahead of fixed charge notices for cyclists being introduced at the end of the month.

Cyclists caught committing an offence will be cautioned by Gardaí as part of an awareness and education initiative aimed raising awareness of new responsibilities on our roads.

From the 31st of July anyone caught committing one of 22 offences will be fined forty euro and Gardaí say the new rules will be fully enforced in Clare.

Sergeant Darragh Molloy of the Clare Garda Traffic Corps hopes the new charges will reduce the number of cases relating to cycling offences appearing beofre the courts.
