Gardaí are investigating a serious assault involving weapons in Ennis.
The incident happened on Francis Street last week where a man received serious injuries.
It’s believed a black Opel Insignia bearing false plates travelled from the Clon Road direction in Ennis down Francis Street last Monday, the 11th of April.
The plates had the registration number of 02 D 69360.
It’s understood the car stopped outside of Tesco and the boot was opened, before it continued down Francis Street and reversed into a private car park.
Five hooded men then got out of the car armed with weapons and went into a business premises where they seriously assaulted another man.
The men then ran out of the premises and got back into the vehicle, which turned left back on to Francis Street and left in the direction of the Clon Road.
It’s not known where the car went from there.
The man received serious injuries to his head and arms and received treatment at University Hospital Limerick.
Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Tríona Brooks, says there are a number of potential witness to the incident and is encouraging them to make contact with Gardaí.
Investigations into the assault remain ongoing.
