Gardaí Investigating Fight Night Brawl As Priority

Gardaí have condemned a fight night brawl at a Shannon Hotel, saying it was an appalling incident at an event where children were present.

A fight involving 15 people broke out at an event organised by the local kickboxing club on Saturday night, resulting in one person being taken to hospital.

The alarm was raised at around ten to eleven on Saturday night after a brawl involving 15 people broke out at the Oakwood Arms Hotel.

A fight night, organised by the Shannon Kickboxing Club was underway at the time.

It was the 12th annual event which had gone off without incident every other year.

Several units of the Gardaí were dispatched to the scene and one man was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was treated for mild concussion.

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Tríona O’Rourke has condemned the incident, which she says is being investigated as a priority.

A video of the brawl has since attracted over 11 thousand views on Facebook.

But Cathaoirleach of the Shannon Municipal District, Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn is calling for calm, saying people should be sensible and allow Gardaí to carry out their investigation.
