Gardai are treating the death of a 74-year-old grandmother in Ennis as a tragic accident.

The woman, named locally as Josie Lucas, was putting shopping into the boot of her car outside a supermarket on Francis Street when the vehicle unexpectedly reversed.
Her grandson was in the car at the time, while a second grandchild was standing close by – both were uninjured but were taken to hospital.
A post mortem will be carried out at University Hospital Limerick later today. Gardaí in Ennis are investigating, and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 065 6848100.
