Gardaí “Firefighting” When It Comes To Vetting Asylum Seekers Says Clare Govt TD

A Clare Government TD has acknowledged the difficulties faced by Gardaí in screening asylum seekers coming from countries with poor vetting systems.

It follows calls from two Galway Fianna Fáil councillors for the government to call a halt to the arrival of any more international protection applicants, with one declaring “the inn is full”.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has dismissed the suggestions, however, that Ireland has an open-border policy and says Ireland has a “rules-based system” of immigration.
