Garda recruitment is to resume next year.
A ban on hiring new officers has been in place since 2009 – as part of a moratorium in the public sector.

To ensure the numbers in the force don’t fall below 13 thousand – the Justice Minister says there will be an intake of recruits during 2014.
Alan Shatter made the announcement at the latest Garda reserve graduation at the Garda Training College in Templemore in Co. Tipperary.
