A serving garda has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

It’s understood the garda was detained in the Midlands region early this morning and is now being questioned at Loughrea Garda station, where he’s being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
He can be detained for up to 24 hours.
Its the first arrest ever made by the Garda Ombudsman Commission since its establishment in 2007.
