Gardaí are advising business owners to contact them immediately if they fear they’ve been targeted in what’s known as invoice re-direct fraud.
The online scam has cost a number of Irish businesses hundreds of thousands of euro, with one in the east of the country suffering losses of almost half a million euro.
Once alerted Gardaí can freeze the accounts of those involved, as part of efforts to protect businesses.
A seminar organised by Clare Gardaí in conjunction with Ennis Chamber is taking place at the Old Ground Hotel In Ennis tomorrow evening from 6.15pm, which will feature a presentation from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.
