Garda Investigation Underway Following Bomb Threat On Flight Diverted To Shannon

A Garda investigation is underway after a plane had to make an emergency landing in Shannon yesterday due to a bomb threat.

The Captain on board the Turkish Airlines flight from Texas to Istanbul declared an emergency after crew members discovered a hand-written note.

A large-scale security operation got underway at Shannon Airport including armed Gardaí and the flight's 227 passengers were evacuated to the terminal building where they were questioned, while searches of the plane and luggage were carried out.

No explosives were found on board the plane and the flight departed Shannon Airport around 7 o'clock yesterday evening.

Superintendent Brendan McDonagh of Ennis Garda Station says evidence has been collected and will be analysed.
