A person believed to be in their 20s entered Coote’s Shop at around 3.50pm yesterday wearing head gear which covered their face.

There were two members of staff working in the shop at the time and the thief threatened a man working at the till with what is believed to be a gun and made his escape on foot with a sum of cash.

The staff member then pursued the thief down the Kilrush Road before losing him near the Rocky Road.

Gardaí were notified and a large search of the area got underway, aided by the civil defence using drones.

There are no reports of injuries and no arrests have yet been made.

Ennis Gardaí are examining CCTV footage in an effort to establish the person’s identity and are urging anyone with information on the incident, or who may have witnesses suspicious activity in the area, to contact them on 065 68 48 100.
