Futureproof Clare To File Appeal Against Ennis Data Centre

A Clare environmental group is planning to file an appeal to An Bord Pleanala against Ennis Data Centre.

This week, Clare County Council approved a planning permission request from Art Data Centres to develop a campus on the outskirts of the town worth €1.2 billlion.

The design submitted to the Council pledges a low carbon model by using external air for cooling, collecting rainwater and using solar panels for hot water generation.

It follows a public meeting held by Futureproof Clare last week where what are described as ‘deep concerns’ were aired regarding the potential environmental impact of the facility.

The group refute claims however, that it suggested all prospective jobs at the centre would be low-paid security workers.

Tim Hannon, member of Futureproof Clare says they won’t be giving up the fight.
