87 people were homeless in Clare at the end of April with an almost 6% fall off noted in the space of a month.

It’s the fifth consecutive monthly drop to start the year, with 97 people recorded as availing of emergency accommodation in January.

Meanwhile, across the Midwest region there were 233 children living in homelessness at the end of May.

That’s a more than 3% decrease from the figure seen during the last week of April, but represents a near 15% increase on the 204 homeless children in January.

When compared to figures from May of 2024, there has been an over 30% spike in the number of children living in homelessness, with 178 seen in emergency accommodation at that time.

Overall nationally, there are 15,747 people living in emergency accommodation.
