Further Setback For Clare Joint Policing Committee Replacement

The establishment of a replacement for Clare’s Joint Policing Committee has been dealt a further setback.

Legislation introduced last year proposed the disbandment of all Joint Policing Committees, which were made up of Gardaí, elected representatives and community representatives, and the establishment of Local Community Safety Partnerships.

Although the appointment of a Chairperson to Clare’s LCSP was believed to be “imminent” earlier this year, it’s now understood that part of the legislation has been recalled as it was deemed “legally problematic”.

Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes, who’ll sit on the Clare LCSP once it’s convened, says there’s a “huge void” in the county.
