This is 219 less than at the beginning of the month, and a fall of 846 since the same time last year.

More than half of the monthly drop has come in Ennis, where the total number of people signing on has fallen below the 5,000 figure for the first time since January 2009.

There was also a large drop in North Clare, down by nearly 80.

Declines have been less sharp in other parts of the county though, with 24 people leaving dole queues in areas associated with the Kilrush welfare office, and 6 in East Clare.
