A visit of famine related sites in the Kilrush Poor Law Union is among the main events in West Clare today as part of the commemoration of the Great Hunger in the 1840’s.

Events are also being held further afield – with a workshop on Emigration during an Ghorta Mór taking place in Tuamgraney at 7 this evening, while a lecture on eyewitness accounts of the devastation gets underway in the Teach Ceoil in Kilrush at 8.
Myles Creek in Kilkee meanwhile will today play host to the week long Soup Kitchen with all funds raised going towards countries currently fighting famine.
