Clare County Council has been allocated a capital grant towards the cost of the proposed new flagship project in Ennis.

An extra 3 million euro is to be provided by the government or a new Clare County Library.

The money is being granted under the Public Library Capital Programme and follows a 1 million euro funding announcement for the project last week.

It's envisioned the new library building and the adjoining glór facility at The Causeway Link in Ennis will combine as the Clare Cultural Centre.

Mayor Of Ennis Pat Daley says it's an exciting day for the town and county.

It's hoped construction will begin in early 2017 and take about 18 months to complete

The mooted total cost of the project is around 8.5 million euro.

Chief Executive of Clare County Council Tom Coughlan says the Council will seek a loan for the rest of the money.
