The 59 year old is being held at Shannon Garda Station on suspicion of conspiring to murder the 21 year old.

Investigating officers believe Robert Sheehan from Moyross was targeted after he stabbed a well-known criminal in Limerick last July.

The 21 year old was gunned down at his brother’s wedding in July in the carpark of a hotel in Bunratty on Sunday September 2nd.

Two men were arrested in the days after his death but subsequently released without charge.

However in recent weeks Gardaí have stepped up their investigation and a further 3 people were detained in Limerick just under a fortnight ago and held for several days on suspicion of conspiracy- they were subsequently released and a file to the DPP.

Then yesterday a 59 year old man was arrested in Limerick City Centre at lunchtime and taken to Shannon Garda Station for questioning – also on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

He’s being held Under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for up to seven days.
