The funeral is taking place today of a South East Clare stonemason who died in a tragic accident on the river Shannon at the weekend.
29-year-old Brian Whelan from Bridgetown, O'Briensbridge was carrying out remedial works on Thomond Bridge in Limerick with two other people when the cage they were attached to broke free from a crane and plunged into the water.
36-year-old TJ Herlihy from Kerry also lost his life in the tragic incident while a third man from Co. Limerick managed to free himself without any serious injury.
A candlelight vigil will be held at Thomond Bridge in memory of the two men on Saturday evening from 8.30pm.
Brian Whelan will be laid to rest today following 12 o'clock requiem mass in Kilbane Church.
