A West Clare councillor has described a €480,000 fund for small road improvements in Clare as ‘a start’ in addressing problems in the county.

The money is allocated under the government’s Local Improvement Scheme for works on private roads and laneways that don’t come under the responsibilities of the local authority.

The funding was discontinued in 2012 due to government cutbacks and has been reinstated – with Clare being one of the counties receiving the most money.
