Full water supply is expected to be restored to the region’s main hospital this evening.

A number of services at the Dooradoyle facility were affected as a result of issues arising out of Storm Emma.

Irish Water and the UL Hospitals Group say this was due to a burst water main in the region.

While the repair was being carried out, a partial supply was maintained to the hospital which was supplemented by tankered deliveries of water.

Supply is expected to be fully restored this evening.

Statement from the UL Hospitals Group

University Hospital Limerick currently has an interruption to its water supply as a result of a water mains fracture outside Raheen Church.

The Buildings & Maintenance team at UHL is working with Limerick City & County Council and Irish Water to restore water fully to the UHL site, prioritising patient and treatment areas first.

Limerick City & County Council have stated that the earliest time for restoration of water services will be 8.00pm this evening, after that it will take a number of hours before the supply is fully restored to the hospital.

As an interim measure, the local Fire Brigade are on site, filling water tanks for use in sinks and toilets across the UHL site.

Irish Water have confirmed that they will supply fresh drinking water this afternoon and in addition, supplies of bottled water have been made available as required.

We have transferred a small number of patients to other hospitals in the Group for procedures planned for today. Our Dialysis service is back up and running after a short outage earlier today.

In the meantime, we would ask all staff and our visitors to please conserve water where possible.

Statement from Irish Water

Crews from Irish Water and Limerick City and County have completed repairs on a burst watermain in the Dooradoyle area which is impacting on supply to Limerick University Hospital and surrounding areas.

While the repair was being carried out, a partial supply was maintained to the hospital which was supplemented by tankered deliveries of water.

It is hoped that a full water supply will return to the area over the course of the evening.

Irish Water and Limerick City and County Council apologise for the inconvenience.
